We have a 44-year-old home and after meeting John through a mutual friend, he suggested we have our home tested for radon based on the geographical location. My wife and I have 3 young kids and we wanted to make sure we were providing a safe and healthy environment for them. John came out and measured our radon levels with his continuous radon monitor and was immediately able to give us the results after briefly stepping out to his car to download the results to his laptop and print out the report. Our radon levels were 3 times the EPA action level of 4.0 pCi/L. While on-site John was able to design and give us a quote for a mitigation system. Kristen and I were a little concerned about the installation, but quickly learned that John and his co-workers had a combined 14 years of radon experience and over 30+ years of construction experience. John educated us on the different types of mitigation systems and we in turn did our own research and interviewed other contractors. American Radon Services of Virginia LLC tested our house for radon after coming highly recommended by my neighbor who recently had a mitigation system installed. John showed up to do the testing and was professionally dressed; he was wearing his credentials and provided us with copies of his certifications. The testing lasted 2 days and before he left he printed out our results. Our levels were at 3.56 pCi/L and since the testing was done in the summer, John suggested we do a long-term test with an Alpha Track detector through the winter months to obtain a better annual average since radon levels typically spike in colder weather. Before John left he set-up the long-term monitor and made the testing affordable for us since we are on a limited budget. We had a fantastic experience with American Radon Services of Virginia LLC. The home inspection revealed high levels of radon from the test performed in our basement. John Bufalari replied promptly to my call and scheduled a visit within a day to look over our basement. He was very thorough and answered all our questions and gave us a proposal before he left. His proposal did not include some extra actions that another radon firm suggested that would have cost an extra $300 as he said he didn't think it necessary given our radon levels. We scheduled the actual work a few weeks out. John and Wayne arrived on time and got done in about 5 hours. Their work looked great as the basement pipe was well concealed, the roof pipe was painted black to better blend in and they did not tap into our sump pump cover but they instead dug a huge suction pit right beside it. John took the time to explain what they did and what we needed to do to maintain the system and we purchased a service agreement to have him come back every two years to look over the system and retest our radon levels. It’s well worth the piece of mind!
